Stock Control Apprentice

We are looking for a Stock Control apprentice to join our Operations team.
The Stock Control Apprentice will support the day‑to‑day accuracy, integrity, and optimisation of warehouse stock. This role is designed to build foundational knowledge in inventory control, stock investigation, and root cause analysis while providing essential operational support to ensure reliable and efficient stock management.
The apprentice will play a key role in completing daily accuracy checks, investigating stock discrepancies, monitoring stock flow issues, and supporting the Stock Control team in maintaining high inventory standards and compliance.
This is an office based role, working from our Mediq UK site in Castle Donington.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential.
You will:
Daily Stock Accuracy & Monitoring
- Complete daily stock checks to ensure system quantities match physical stock
- Highlight and escalate discrepancies, missing stock, or system errors
- Maintain and update stock accuracy trackers and dashboards
- Support timely execution of daily / weekly stock routines
- Daily cycle count checks and variance investigations
- Monitoring high‑risk SKUs and discrepancy trends
- Identifying and reporting recurring stock errors
- Supporting reconciliation of stock after operational activity (e.g., picks, putaways, returns)
Root Cause Analysis & Investigation
- Conduct root cause analysis for stock discrepancies
- Document findings clearly and propose corrective actions
- Collaborate with Warehouse, Goods‑In, and Operations teams to resolve stock issues
- Support implementation of corrective and preventative actions
Inventory Management Support
- Assist with monitoring slow‑moving, excess, and obsolete stock
- Support weekly and monthly stock audits
- Assist with stock adjustments following investigation and approval
- Improve accuracy and visibility of stock through consistent reporting
Stock Flow & Operational Support
- Monitor stock movements across key warehouse processes (Goods‑In, Putaway, Picking, Despatch)
- Support the team in resolving operational blockers affecting stock accuracy
- Assist with returns, quarantined items, and damaged stock investigations
Communication & Coordination
- Respond to stock‑related queries via team inbox or direct communication
- Coordinate follow-ups with operational teams on required actions
- Support cross‑functional communication between Stock Control, Operations, and Inventory teams
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve stock accuracy and process reliability
- Support development of simplified and standardised stock control procedures
- Contribute to reducing manual work through better use of digital tools and improved data accuracy
Development Opportunity
As part of a structured apprenticeship, the Stock Control Apprentice will gain exposure to:
- Inventory control and warehouse processes

- Data analysis and reporting using warehouse systems
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and stock investigation tools
- Cross‑team communication and operational problem solving

Salary - £25,000

As part of the recruitment and selection process, we will be holding an assessment for our apprentice positions at our headquarters in Castle Donington on Thursday 30th April.
