Financial Controller – Castle Donington

Following a sustained period of growth through acquisition and organic expansion, we are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to strengthen our finance leadership team and support the next phase of scale.
This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, operational rigour, and the ability to build scalable finance processes within a dynamic and evolving environment.
Salary - £80,000 - £85,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance
Role Overview
The Financial Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the company’s financial operations, governance, reporting, and control environment. Leading a finance team, the successful candidate will drive best-in-class financial processes, ensure robust compliance, and provide high-quality financial insight to support strategic decision-making.
The role will suit an ambitious finance leader with experience in complex, multi-entity businesses, ideally within acquisitive or private equity-backed environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Control & Governance
- Lead and maintain a strong financial control environment across the group.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and internal governance requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Own the annual financial statements process and coordinate all statutory reporting requirements.
- Lead the annual external audit cycle and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Ensure robust balance sheet reconciliations and controls are maintained across all entities.
- Support technical accounting matters, including acquisition accounting and complex accounting treatments where required.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and mentor the finance function, including direct management of:
- Finance Manager
- Accounts Receivable Manager
- Accounts Payable Manager
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
- Build organisational capability and scalable finance structures to support ongoing growth.
Cash Flow, Working Capital & Forecasting
- Own group cash flow forecasting and liquidity management.
- Lead working capital forecasting, monitoring, and optimisation initiatives.
- Drive improvements in cash conversion and operational cash management.
- Manage banking relationships and oversee treasury activities, including hedging and FX requirements
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process across the business.
- Partner with operational and commercial stakeholders to deliver accurate forecasting and performance analysis.
- Monitor and control OPEX performance against budget, identifying risks and opportunities proactively.
- Provide insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Establish best-in-class finance processes, controls, and procedures across the organisation.
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and standardisation.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, including ERP implementation and optimisation projects.
- Contribute to integration activities relating to acquisitions and newly onboarded entities.
Annual Financial Statements, Tax & Compliance
- Production of Annual Financial Statements
- Oversee VAT compliance and tax accounting processes.
- Coordinate with Group and external advisors on corporate tax matters and compliance obligations.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of all statutory and regulatory filings.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with significant experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance position. You will hold strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise and have a solid track record leading high performing finance teams.
It’ll be great if you also have:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Experience within a multi-entity, complex, or highly acquisitive environment.
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise.
- Experience managing annual audits and statutory reporting processes.
- Prior exposure to treasury management, FX, and hedging activities.
- ERP implementation or major finance systems transformation experience desirable.
- Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth businesses advantageous.
